The North Central AHEC offers a variety of programs designed to increase health awareness and health-career awareness among students, teachers and counselors. Programs are offered free of charge to schools in the North Central AHEC service area. Priority is given to schools in rural and urban underserved areas, and all programs are subject to availability.
Programs include classroom presentations, summer camp, and our annual Northern Kentucky Health Careers Showcase! AHEC Scholars is Federally Funded program designed to give post-secondary students access to pre-professional educational opportunities. Students in a health career program beginning their last 2 years of curriculum are encouraged to apply. This program provides didactic coursework in 8 key areas and community experientials to provide hands on activities!

The North Central AHEC coordinates the placement of health professions students and residents from the University of Kentucky, the University of Louisville, and the University of Pikeville College of Osteopathic Medicine in off-campus clinical education experiences. In addition, health professions students from other Kentucky colleges and universities will be accommodated when possible.
GAPS2GOWNS is a pre-college program designed for high school students interested in a career in nursing. The program is open to high school students of all grades and offers hands on activities from shadowing to clinical skills to prepare you for an educational program in nursing.

The North Central AHEC sponsors a wide variety of community projects focusing on the needs of vulnerable populations across the service area, especially the growing number of Latinx residents. Community Health workers address growing health concerns in the area including diabetes, hypertension, and prenatal care.
