Community Health Fairs (Ferias de Salud comunitarias)
The North Central AHEC offers several health fairs every year aimed at the Hispanic/Latino population of central Kentucky as well as the general population. Health screenings, such as blood pressure, height, weight, blood glucose and cholesterol, hearing testing, dental examination, and HIV/AIDS testing, are offered free of charge. These include:  “Festival Latino of Lexington Health Fair” in September; “Día de La Mujer Latina” in October.

Health Promoters continuing education classes
Promotores, also known as community health workers, play an important role in promoting community-based health education and prevention in a manner that is culturally and linguistically appropriate, particularly in communities and for populations that have been historically underserved. This is why NC AHEC continues to meet with graduates to provide opportunities for education, information, and networking amongst Promotores. These extra classes provides Promotores with continuing education necessary to learn more about other health issues such as Mental Health, CPR/First AID, children’s Illness, HIV testing & counseling and others.  They also learn about new services, resources, and programs from the diverse clinics, hospitals, and organizations in the region.
