The health promoters or community health workers are members in the community who are trained in health-related  issues for about 10 weeks.  The health promoters promote healthy lifestyles  in their own communities. After the students graduate, the health promoters integrate information about health and refer community members to the resources that they need.

The health promoters program is effective because the students obtain the training for later to improve health and to support community members. The graduates reach out the community by educating and changing for healthy habits. The health promoters are bridges who connect, for example, Hispanic members in need with health care professionals, and community organizations. They help to make connections that reach people and change community health. In addition, they teach their own community to practice healthier life styles.
